KUWAIT CITY, July 14: The Court of Appeal overturned the prison sentence against journalist Fajr Al-Saeed and refrained from imposing any penalty, on the condition that she pay a bail of 1,000 dinars for good behavior.

Previously, the Criminal Court had sentenced Al-Saeed to three years in prison with hard labor for charges of spreading false news and misuse of a telephone, while acquitting her of the other charges.

The Public Prosecution had ordered her imprisonment and referral to the Central Prison after accusing her of broadcasting false news, misusing a telephone, calling for normalization with the Israeli occupation, and harming the country’s interests.

Her lawyer, Dr. Faisal Ayal Al-Anzi, argued that the law cited did not apply to the accusations against her and that her actions did not constitute a crime.

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: The Kuwait Municipality stated that field teams are stepping up inspection campaigns across all governorates to enforce municipal cleaning and road occupation regulations.

In Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, the municipality conducted extensive tours of residential areas to enhance cleanliness, remove obstacles from roads, prevent waste disposal outside designated containers, and clean beaches as well as main and internal streets.

These efforts led to the removal of 26 abandoned vehicles and scrap trucks violating the law, issuance of 42 violations related to public cleaning and road occupation, and 38 removal notices for abandoned vehicles and unauthorized commercial containers. Additionally, six old waste containers were replaced with new ones.

The supervisory team emphasized that field visits will continue without leniency, and all legal measures will be strictly applied against violators of the Public Cleanliness and Road Occupation Regulations.

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Road accidents decreased drastically following the introduction of tougher penalties and fines for traffic violations in the new Traffic Law, which took effect on April 22. The number of traffic accident deaths reached 94 in the first half of this year, compared to 143 in the first half of last year. The General Traffic Department confirmed the significant decline in the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents during the first half of this year (from January 1 to June 30), with 49 deaths. It attributed this decline to several factors, especially the amended Traffic Law, which is part of the efforts of the State to enhance road safety and develop smart security and traffic systems that effectively contribute to monitoring violations and controlling dangerous behavior on the road.

According to the department, the citizens and expatriates also played a vital role in this improvement, through their commitment to abide by traffic rules. “This positive decline is the result of the community’s cooperation with security agencies and their commitment to contribute to the achievement of national goals to protect lives and prevent losses resulting from accidents,” it added. The department affirmed that work is continuing to improve the efficiency of the traffic system and promote traffic culture among all segments of society, stressing that protecting lives is a shared responsibility that requires continuous cooperation and awareness.
