KUWAIT CITY, July 13: In a large-scale security and traffic operation launched early Sunday morning, Kuwait’s Traffic and Operations Sector — through the coordinated efforts of the General Traffic Department and the General Directorate of Rescue Police — conducted a sweeping campaign across the country’s highways, resulting in a total of 506 traffic violations being recorded.

The operation involved the widespread deployment of traffic and security patrols along major roads and highways, aimed at clamping down on reckless driving, enhancing road safety, and enforcing traffic regulations. Authorities emphasized that the campaign targeted individuals whose behavior posed a risk to the safety and security of other road users.

As part of the enforcement drive, 10 vehicles were impounded due to serious traffic violations. Additionally, five individuals with active arrest warrants were apprehended during the campaign. Police also detained three individuals who failed to present any form of identification, and three vehicles were confiscated as they were wanted by the judicial authorities.

The crackdown further led to the arrest of three juveniles for operating vehicles without a valid driving license. One individual classified as an absconder was also taken into custody. Moreover, two persons were arrested for possession of suspected narcotic and intoxicating substances. In the latter case, the substances were seized as a precautionary measure pending further investigation.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing operations of this kind, warning that similar campaigns will continue to ensure public safety and uphold law and order on Kuwait’s roads.

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Road accidents decreased drastically following the introduction of tougher penalties and fines for traffic violations in the new Traffic Law, which took effect on April 22. The number of traffic accident deaths reached 94 in the first half of this year, compared to 143 in the first half of last year. The General Traffic Department confirmed the significant decline in the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents during the first half of this year (from January 1 to June 30), with 49 deaths. It attributed this decline to several factors, especially the amended Traffic Law, which is part of the efforts of the State to enhance road safety and develop smart security and traffic systems that effectively contribute to monitoring violations and controlling dangerous behavior on the road.

According to the department, the citizens and expatriates also played a vital role in this improvement, through their commitment to abide by traffic rules. “This positive decline is the result of the community’s cooperation with security agencies and their commitment to contribute to the achievement of national goals to protect lives and prevent losses resulting from accidents,” it added. The department affirmed that work is continuing to improve the efficiency of the traffic system and promote traffic culture among all segments of society, stressing that protecting lives is a shared responsibility that requires continuous cooperation and awareness.
