Kuwaiti national extradited from Iraq over wife’s murder

Kuwait-Iraq security cooperation leads to the extradition of a suspect in the wife’s premeditated murder case.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14: As part of ongoing security cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq, Iraqi authorities have apprehended Hamad Ayed Rekan Mufreh, a Kuwaiti national wanted in connection with the premeditated murder of his wife, a Syrian national. The arrest was made based on an international warrant issued against him.

The suspect had fled Kuwait through the Abdali border crossing on October 18, 2024, following the crime. The victim was found deceased in her residence, and the case continues to be under investigation by the Public Prosecution.

Following completion of legal procedures in Iraq, the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq approved the suspect’s transfer to Kuwait. He was handed over on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2025, at the Abdali border crossing, in coordination between Interpol Kuwait and its Iraqi counterpart.

The suspect has been referred to the relevant Kuwaiti authorities to undergo the necessary legal proceedings.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14:  Kuwait Municipality confirmed on Thursday the continuation of its field inspection campaigns to monitor construction, building, and renovation work across residential, industrial, and investment areas. The inspections are carried out by supervising engineers to ensure full compliance with building regulations.

Salman Al-Otaibi, head of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality team, emphasized to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the importance of obtaining all necessary permits before starting any construction work to avoid violations and warnings.

Al-Otaibi added that inspection teams remain vigilant during site visits, as violations not only threaten the safety of workers but also endanger residents in nearby neighborhoods. He noted that during inspections in the Sabah Al-Salem area, the team issued 10 warnings to private residences and recorded two violations of building regulations.

He stressed that the municipality will strictly enforce all regulations and take necessary control measures to ensure compliance. Al-Otaibi also said that today’s inspections are part of a series of field tours scheduled across all governorates, coordinated by the Public Relations Department in collaboration with relevant departments, to continue over the coming weeks.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14:  As part of the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts to combat drugs and protect society from toxic substances, and under the direct supervision of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Department of Drug Control, has arrested an illegal resident (Bedoun), Abdul Aziz Juma Aboud Al-Sharifi, who was running a laboratory for manufacturing, storing, and distributing narcotics in a rented stable in the Kabd area.

The raid led to the seizure of 25 kilograms of a chemical substance ready for distribution, 10 liters of the base material used to produce the chemical, 15,000 Lyrica capsules, 250 grams of methamphetamine, a large number of papers saturated with the chemical substance ready for distribution, various manufacturing tools and equipment, and a range of dangerous chemicals, including concentrated toxic pesticides, acetone, and lacquer.

Investigations revealed that the suspect used highly toxic and dangerous chemicals, such as pesticides and acetone, to mix and prepare the narcotic substance, posing a serious threat to public health and potentially causing death.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed its continued commitment to pursuing and apprehending anyone involved in the production and distribution of narcotics, taking all legal measures against them, and emphasized that protecting society and maintaining its security and stability remain top priorities.

53 facilities shut down, 120 notices issued in Fahaheel fire department crackdown

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14: The Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), in coordination with several government entities, conducted an extensive inspection campaign in the Fahaheel Industrial Area that led to the closure of dozens of non-compliant establishments.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the KFF announced that the campaign resulted in the administrative closure of 53 industrial establishments and shops found to violate fire safety and regulatory requirements. Additionally, 120 notices and warnings were issued to other facilities found to be in partial breach of regulations.

The inspection was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Industry, the Environment Public Authority, and the Kuwait Municipality.

The campaign is part of ongoing efforts to enforce public safety regulations and ensure compliance with fire prevention measures across industrial zones.
