Court hikes alimony, comp for ex-wife in divorce case

Published

on

KUWAIT CITY, April 2: The Court of Appeals has ruled to obligate a man to pay a fair financial compensation to his ex-wife to adequately compensate her for the harm she sustained due to their divorce after 20 years of marriage. Lawyer Sarah Badr filed an appeal against the ruling issued by the Family Court of First Instance, which had granted her client a low amount as alimony and compensation. She said the ruling had failed to take into consideration the wealth of the ex-husband, as well as the fact that her client had dedicated her life to serving her husband and children, only to grow older and lose her financial support and an opportunity to remarry.

She also stressed that the ruling contradicted the facts in the case documents. In light of these points, the Court of Appeals accepted the appeal, amended the initial ruling, and increased the alimony for the waiting period and compensatory benefits to properly compensate for the harm suffered by the woman, based on the legal arguments presented. The court thus fulfilled the purpose of the legislation on alimony for the waiting period and compensatory benefits.
