Court ‘axes’ jail for two lawyers

Published

KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Court of Cassation overturned the one-year prison sentence previously imposed on two lawyers accused of spreading false information about Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan. Instead of upholding the prison term, the higher court opted to refrain from imposing a punishment, ordering the lawyers to maintain good conduct. Earlier, the Court of Appeals sentenced the two lawyers to one year in prison for disseminating false news about Al-Mashaan through the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). The State security case was filed after the Ministry of Interior arrested the lawyers on charges of publishing fabricated information about the minister. When they were referred to the Public Prosecution, both defendants denied the allegation.

Spellcasting items linked to witchcraft confiscated by authorities

KUWAIT CITY, July 9: Customs officers at the Northern Ports and Failaka Island Customs Department (specifically at the Passenger Inspection Office in Shuwaikh Port) successfully intercepted several items linked to sorcery and witchcraft found in the possession of incoming passengers. This action is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard society from foreign practices that are prohibited under both Sharia law and national legislation.

The seizure was made possible due to the vigilance and sharp observation of the customs officers, who grew suspicious while inspecting certain pieces of luggage. Upon closer examination, they discovered talismans, ritual papers, and materials believed to be associated with witchcraft.

The General Administration of Customs emphasized that bringing such items into the country constitutes a serious violation and poses a threat to public safety and social stability. It reiterated that customs officials remain steadfast in preventing the entry of such prohibited items.

The administration commended the inspectors for their dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and taking all necessary legal actions against offenders in order to preserve the security and integrity of the nation.
