KUWAIT CITY, Aug 7: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Al-Duwaihi Mubarak Al-Duwaihi, has sentenced an expatriate anesthesiologist employed at a government hospital to seven years in prison with hard labor, followed by deportation after serving the sentence.

The doctor was convicted of sexually harassing a female patient while she was unconscious. The court’s decision was based on multiple pieces of evidence, including the victim’s complaint, witness testimonies, findings from the criminal investigation, and the accused’s own confession. The doctor had also reportedly told the victim she could contact him if she needed a place to stay — a statement considered as part of the case.

The court further ruled that, as a public employee, the accused would be dismissed from his position.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: The General Administration of Customs announced the seizure of multiple air cargo shipments from the People’s Republic of China containing approximately 5.59 million empty capsules suspected of being intended for illegal use.

According to a statement, inspectors from the Air Cargo Customs Department flagged suspicious shipments labeled as “plastic parts” and “medical items” during routine inspection. Upon examination, the parcels were found to contain empty capsules marked “Pfizer PGN300,” a label associated with Lyrica, a psychotropic substance regulated under Kuwaiti law and permitted for import only under strict legal frameworks.

Customs officials noted a clear discrepancy between the declared contents and the actual items, with accompanying invoices failing to match the seized goods. Following consultation with health specialists from the Air Cargo Health Department, it was confirmed that the capsules were unauthorized and prohibited.

A commercial seizure report was filed, and the shipments have been confiscated pending further legal action. Customs authorities reaffirmed their commitment to combating smuggling and fraud, emphasizing ongoing coordination with relevant agencies to protect public health and national safety.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6:  Authorities at Doha Port successfully intercepted a major drug smuggling operation involving a shipment falsely declared as animal feed, arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Customs inspectors from the Northern Ports and Failaka Island Customs Department, in coordination with the Customs Investigation and Investigation Department and supported by the Tracking Unit, conducted a targeted inspection based on prior intelligence and risk analysis.

The cargo vessel had raised suspicion before docking, prompting officials to carry out a detailed inspection of the shipment. Despite being labeled as animal feed, the cargo was found to contain approximately 4,550 suspected psychotropic pills and an estimated 5.2 kilograms of marijuana, both expertly concealed within the consignment.

The seized narcotics were confiscated, and an official report on the incident has been filed. The matter is now being referred to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.

In a statement, the General Administration of Customs reiterated its firm commitment to combating the smuggling of banned substances, emphasizing that all necessary measures will continue to be employed to protect the country from illicit trade.
