KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: In a significant security operation, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Criminal Security Affairs Sector and the General Department for Drug Control, has dismantled a drug trafficking network operating inside and outside the country.

The operation began after investigations confirmed that an Indian national owned a large quantity of narcotics intended for trafficking. With authorization from the Public Prosecution, the suspect was arrested and found with a quantity of hashish. She confessed to owning the drugs and revealed the involvement of two others a bedoun at the Central Prison and a fugitive Bangladeshi national abroad—who were coordinating the promotion and distribution of narcotics.

A joint task force from the Drug Control Department and the Correctional Institutions’ Security Support Unit raided the inmate’s prison cell, seizing a mobile phone he had been using to run operations and communicate with his partners. The inmate admitted to collaborating with the fugitive to carry out these activities.

The coordinated efforts led to the seizure of 145 kilograms of hashish. All suspects, along with the confiscated drugs, were referred to the Drug Prosecution for legal action.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying crackdowns on drug traffickers and promoters, stressing that it will not hesitate to pursue and arrest anyone who threatens the safety of society and the health of its citizens.

CBI extradites wanted fugitive Munawar Khan from Kuwait to India

Fugitive Munawar Khan was brought back to India by the CBI with Kuwait’s assistance.

NEW DELHI, Sept 11:  The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully coordinated the extradition of wanted fugitive Munawar Khan from Kuwait, utilizing INTERPOL’s channels. Khan, who is wanted in India for charges of forgery and cheating, was brought back on 11 September 2025.

The extradition was made possible through the collaboration of the CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Kuwait’s National Central Bureau (NCB), the CBI said in an official statement.

Munawar Khan, who had been under a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL, was escorted by a team of Kuwait Police. He arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, where a CBI team took custody of him, according to the release.

“Munawar Khan has been escorted by a team of Kuwait Police and arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, from Kuwait. The custody of the subject was taken over by a team of CBI, STB, Chennai at the Airport on 11.09.2025,” the CBI said in a statement.

The CBI, serving as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, works closely with law enforcement agencies through the BHARATPOL network to coordinate international extraditions. In recent years, more than 130 wanted criminals have been returned to India through INTERPOL’s assistance.

This follows another recent successful extradition by the CBI. On 5 September 2025, the agency, in coordination with the Gujarat Police, the MEA, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, facilitated the return of Harshit Babulal Jain from the United Arab Emirates. Jain is wanted in Gujarat for tax evasion, illegal gambling, and money laundering.

The CBI’s successful coordination in both cases demonstrates its ongoing commitment to bringing fugitives back to India through international cooperation.
