NEW YORK: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, led Kuwait’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary. Over nine days, His Highness engaged in more than 50 activities, reflecting Kuwait’s active role in international diplomacy and global cooperation. His Highness participated in the high-level conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France and addressed the UNGA, the Security Council and the opening session of the general debate.
In his speeches, he reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to a just two-state solution, condemned Zionist violations in Gaza, and highlighted the importance of reforming the Security Council to strengthen justice, transparency and credibility. On regional issues, His Highness underlined Kuwait’s support for Iraq, Syria and Lebanon while expressing concern over developments in Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya. He also called on Iran to adopt confidence-building measures and resume dialogue on its nuclear program, in line with respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
His Highness met UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UNGA President Annalena Baerbock and a number of world leaders, including the presidents of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Portugal, Austria, Syria, Japan, Somalia and several other nations. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties, advancing regional stability and enhancing cooperation through multilateral frameworks. Economically, His Highness met with 15 global business leaders, including CEOs of Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg, BlackRock, Microsoft, Google, Blackstone, Amazon and Brookfield. Discussions centered on expanding international companies’ presence in Kuwait, supporting Kuwait Vision 2035, and empowering Kuwaiti youth through technology transfer, training and investment partnerships.
His Highness also met with members of Kuwait’s diplomatic corps at the Permanent Mission to the UN, commending their efforts and urging them to continue highlighting Kuwait’s pioneering role in international forums. Concluding his mission, His Highness’s engagements demonstrated Kuwait’s firm commitment to promoting peace, stability and economic development, while reinforcing the country’s distinguished standing on the international stage. — KUNA
