KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Namaa Charity announced Monday the launch of an urgent water distribution campaign in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with partner organizations accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to support families facing an escalating water crisis. As part of the initiative, 230 water trucks, each with a capacity of 1,000 liters, were delivered to affected areas, benefiting more than 2,760 people. The effort comes amid severe shortages of potable water caused by the destruction of desalination plants, supply networks and key infrastructure, leaving over two million people at risk.
“The daily scenes reflect the gravity of the damage to water facilities, leading to the suspension of desalination plants and the near paralysis of supply and sewage networks. This has forced thousands of families to rely on unsafe and insufficient sources of water,” said Abdulaziz Al-Kandari, Deputy CEO of Namaa Charity. Al-Kandari noted that the crisis extends beyond thirst, posing significant health threats. He emphasized that the campaign was not a temporary initiative but a lifeline for families in need. “Water is not a luxury, but a basic right to survival,” he said, adding that the field team overcame major obstacles, including destroyed roads, fuel shortages and security challenges, to ensure timely delivery.

He also expressed appreciation to Kuwait’s leadership for its unwavering support of humanitarian work. “The generous care of Kuwait’s political leadership affirms that Kuwaiti charitable work continues under a leadership that believes in its humanitarian role regionally and globally,” he said. Al-Kandari praised the Foreign Ministry for facilitating the aid process and ensuring coordination with authorized partners inside Gaza, enabling swift and transparent distribution. Al-Kandari further thanked all contributors and donors, stressing that Namaa Charity will remain at the forefront of relief efforts. “The suffering of Gaza will not end without solidarity and continued support,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Yemen, Namaa Charity distributed 332 food baskets in the Tihama region of western Yemen, reaching 2,324 displaced individuals and orphans as part of the “Kuwait by Your Side” campaign, now in its 11th year. In a press statement, Namaa’s Marketing Director Ibrahim Al-Sanea said the initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of affected families, enhance food security and support widows and orphans. He thanked the Kuwaiti people for their generous contributions and urged continued backing for humanitarian projects abroad. Majdi bin Harhara, Executive Director of Yemen’s Al-Rofaka Association for Human Development, which implemented the project, praised Kuwaiti efforts for reaching vulnerable communities. He noted that the support provides hope to families enduring harsh living conditions, reflecting Kuwait’s steadfast commitment to humanitarian principles. — KUNA
