KUWAIT: Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem chaired the inaugural meeting of the Supreme Committee for Energy on Thursday.
Established in April 2025 by a decree from Al-Mukhaizeem, the committee’s primary goal is to raise awareness about conserving electricity and water among both citizens and residents, particularly during the high-demand summer months.
A press statement released in April outlined the committee’s responsibilities, which include designing public education campaigns on conservation, collaborating with civil society organizations and the private sector, and promoting the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in residential, industrial, and agricultural buildings. The committee will also support joint projects focused on renewable energy and water-saving systems.
In his remarks, as reported in the ministry’s press release, Al-Mukhaizeem underscored the urgent need to accelerate plans for enhancing energy sustainability and transitioning to clean energy sources, in alignment with Kuwait’s international commitments toward achieving carbon neutrality. The meeting emphasized the importance of coordination among relevant agencies to update the country’s energy security and sustainability strategies and explore future opportunities to transition to more efficient and sustainable energy sources.
The session included a review of the work done by technical subcommittees in previous cycles, as well as the 2024 National Energy Transformation Document, prepared by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). This document serves as a crucial reference for the development of Kuwait’s energy sector.
The Supreme Energy Committee includes representatives from key government entities and national institutions, including Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, KFAS, the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, the Ministry of Finance, the Public-Private Partnership Authority, the Public Authority for Industry, the Environment Public Authority, and Kuwait Municipality. — Agencies
