KUWAIT: In a special event marking the countdown to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, Sheikha Shaikha Al-Sabah, a prominent yoga advocate, was the guest of honor at a Ladies’ Yoga event hosted by the Embassy of India at India House, the residence of the Indian Ambassador.

The event, held 50 days ahead of IDY 2025, gathered female Ambassadors, spouses of diplomats, and local yoga practitioners for a session highlighting the global impact of yoga.

Sheikha Shaikha was recently recognized with the prestigious Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, conferred by the President of India. Her award celebrates her outstanding efforts in promoting yoga and wellness across Kuwait and the wider region. Her attendance underscored the deep cultural ties between Kuwait and India and highlighted the growing influence of yoga as a bridge for health and harmony across nations, the embassy said in a statement.

The International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21, was established by the United Nations in 2014 following a resolution initiated by India and co-sponsored by 177 countries, including Kuwait. It promotes global awareness of yoga’s physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. This year’s IDY theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” reflects a global commitment to collective well-being. To mark the occasion, the Embassy of India in Kuwait will organize a major yoga event on June 21.
