KUWAIT CITY, July 30: The Criminal Court has rejected an appeal filed by a Kuwaiti doctor and upheld the original verdict sentencing him to five years in prison, a KD 345,000 fine, and dismissal from his job. The doctor was found guilty of embezzling KD 115,000 in salaries he received while being absent from work.
According to the Ministry of Health’s legal department, the doctor had been absent from his post at a government hospital for five years while residing abroad. Despite his prolonged absence, he continued to receive his full salary with the help of another employee, suggesting collusion.
Following an official report submitted to the Public Prosecution, an investigation was launched. Authorities confirmed that the doctor had not entered Kuwait in the past five years, confirming the fraudulent salary payments.
