Kuwait committed to UN reform

KUWAIT: On behalf of HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in New York on Friday to lead Kuwait’s delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding in New York City.

Accompanying HH the Crown Prince is an official delegation including Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority Sheikh Dr Meshal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and senior officials. HH the Crown Prince is scheduled to chair Kuwait’s participation in high-level meetings and discussions as part of the UNGA’s 80th session, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and international peace. HH the Amir’s Representative Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said: “This occasion represents a pivotal moment for renewing the international community’s commitment to reforming the United Nations, and developing its working mechanisms to make it more effective and capable of addressing multiple challenges.”

HH the Crown Prince expressed honor in representing HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in this important session of the United Nations General Assembly, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the organization, along with the participation of 105 leaders and heads of state and government. HH the Amir’s Representative stressed that “any anticipated reform must contribute to building a more efficient and effective international system that enhances international peace and security and achieves development for everyone in the world”.

HH Sheikh Sabah added that the session’s agenda includes several high-level meetings, most notably the meeting on the two-state solution, which will be co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France. He expressed optimism that the meeting will witness advanced steps, represented by the recognition of the State of Palestine by a number of major and influential countries, which constitutes an important milestone on the path to its recognition as a full member of the United Nations.

HH Sheikh Sabah also affirmed his keenness to take advantage of this high-profile presence of various leaders through bilateral meetings to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international issues. He noted that he will also hold meetings with a number of financial institutions and major companies in the United States that have partnerships with Kuwait to discuss future strategic plans and their work in Kuwait, in a way that serves the achievement of the goals of Kuwait Vision 2035. — KUNA
