KUWAIT: Jahra Governor Hamad Al-Habshi has affirmed the governorate’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at preserving Kuwait’s cleanliness and environment. Speaking after sponsoring and attending the Jahra National Park cleaning campaign organized by the platform in conjunction with World Cleanup Day, Al-Habshi emphasized that fostering positive environmental behavior among citizens and residents is a shared societal responsibility that enhances public awareness and preserves public facilities, reflecting Kuwait’s civilized image.

He added that volunteer participation in such campaigns demonstrates a growing societal culture of environmental care. Al-Habshi called on the Ministry of Education to provide educational programs across all levels to instill patriotism and environmental stewardship, stressing the importance of engaging students in voluntary activities that foster responsibility and love for the country’s cleanliness.

Meanwhile, the Environment Public Authority (EPA) highlighted Kuwait’s dedication to protecting its coasts and natural resources, which serve as key areas for recreation and tourism. Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director General of Public Relations and Media at the EPA, told KUNA that on World Cleanup Day, cleaning campaigns were organized at 30 locations nationwide, including Kuwait Towers beach in cooperation with the Public Authority for Youth.

She noted that the campaigns promote community participation, raise awareness of environmental laws — including Article 33, which imposes fines for illegal waste disposal — and support the EPA’s mission to monitor, protect, and rehabilitate marine and coastal environments. Al-Ibrahim also highlighted partnerships with the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Initiative and the Sabah Al-Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Charity to plant seedlings and enhance greenery, aiming to improve aesthetics, enrich biodiversity, and combat climate change and desertification.

In Farwaniya, Governor Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah underscored that voluntary environmental initiatives foster cooperation between state institutions, youth, and volunteers, enhancing environmental awareness. Speaking at a cleanup event in front of the Farwaniya Popular Café, he praised the Kafoo platform and its CEO, Dr Fatima Al-Moussawi, for promoting community participation and stressed the importance of cultivating environmental values to create a healthy, clean and beautiful Kuwait. — KUNA
