Kuwait governors discuss security development and public services

KUWAIT: The governors of Kuwait’s six governorates convened on Monday to discuss key issues related to security, development, the economy, the environment, and society, as well as initiatives aimed at enhancing public services and facilities.

The meeting was held at the office of Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, who received the Governor of the Capital Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Governor of Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Acting Governor of Hawally Sheikh Sabah Bader Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Governor of Jahra Hamad Al-Habshi, Governor of Ahmadi Sheikh Hmoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the Director General of the General Administration of Ministerial Committees and Governorates Affairs Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah.

The governors underscored the importance of monitoring the progress of ongoing and completed development projects and aligning their efforts with the directives of the country’s leadership to provide services that benefit citizens and advance development.

They expressed appreciation to the political leadership and government for their continued support in enhancing the governors’ roles in serving Kuwait. The statement highlighted that ongoing coordination among the governors aims to unify efforts and strengthen teamwork across the country. Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah noted that the continuation of such meetings fosters integration and positively impacts the development of projects and public services across all governorates.

Strengthening cooperation

In another development, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem on Monday highlighted the advancement of bilateral relations between Kuwait and the People’s Republic of China, marked by the signing of several agreements.

Speaking in a press statement following his meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by First Deputy Governor of Shanghai Provincial Government Zhang Jinqing, Dr Al-Mukhaizeem said the talks build on His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s 2023 visit to Beijing, which established a comprehensive cooperation agenda with President Xi Jinping.

Dr Al-Mukhaizeem noted that recent developments include technical arrangements and framework agreements signed in March for joint project development with the State-owned Public Investment Fund (SPIC) and the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) in July. He highlighted that the Shagaya and Abdaliya projects form key pillars of Kuwait’s clean energy strategy, emphasizing the country’s welcome of Chinese investment and expertise and its commitment to fostering mutual cooperation across various sectors.

The minister added that the visit will further strengthen friendship and advance the strategic partnership between the two nations. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman of the State Energy Investment Corporation Tamin Hai Bin, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity Dr Adel Al-Zamil, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs Samih Jawhar Hayat and other senior ministry officials. — KUNA
