KUWAIT: Kuwaiti engineer Mishal Al-Otaibi was recognized among the promising young leaders for 2025 during the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum, which opened on Sunday in Kyoto, Japan, in the presence of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, alongside wide international participation. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Otaibi described the honor as “a great privilege and a unique opportunity to represent Kuwait at one of the world’s leading conferences that brings together thought and science leaders.”
He noted that the forum aims to promote a culture of innovation and create sustainable opportunities in line with the Kuwait 2035 Vision. Al-Otaibi presented his research at the forum on enhancing energy efficiency, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, cutting carbon emissions, and expanding the use of renewable energy sources. He emphasized that the STS Forum serves as a global platform connecting innovators, scientists, and decision-makers.
Recognized as one of Kuwait’s most promising young talents, Al-Otaibi has earned several international scientific accolades, including first place in architecture at a global conference in Paris among 500 researchers from 54 countries, the Best Scientific Research Award at the North American Conference in Washington competing with 600 researchers from 62 countries, and second-best participation representing Kuwait.
The three-day forum, which concludes on October 7, was founded in 2004 by former Japanese Minister Koji Omi and has become a leading international platform for dialogue among scientists, policymakers, and the private sector on the societal impact of technological development and its role in achieving sustainable development. — KUNA
