KUWAIT: Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi received a delegation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada on a recent visit aimed at reviewing the standards of medical education and training in Kuwait. The visit was part of the periodic review process for institutional accreditation of the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations and its specialized programs, including Pediatrics, Basic Surgery, and Diagnostic Anatomy. The delegation, which included senior members of the Canadian college, praised the Institute’s strict adherence to international quality standards in medical education, as well as its commitment to the best practices in training, assessment, and patient safety.
The Canadian delegation also commended the training facilities available at Ministry of Health hospitals, including advanced medical and surgical technologies. During their field visits to several hospitals, including Jahra, Farwaniya, Jaber Al-Ahmad, the Maternity Hospital, Al-Razi, and Sabah Al-Ahmad Urology Centers, the delegation noted the presence of specialized training staff and the high standards maintained across the medical sector.
In a statement, Dr Al-Awadhi, also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations, thanked the Canadian delegation for their comprehensive evaluation and reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its healthcare system. “Supporting our medical and health personnel is a key foundation for enhancing the national healthcare system,” he said. He also emphasized the Ministry of Health’s unwavering dedication to patient safety and the quality of healthcare services across the country. The meeting concluded with the head of the Canadian delegation presenting their recommendations, which will be submitted to the Royal College’s accreditation committee. Dr. Al-Awadhi confirmed that the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations continues to meet all necessary requirements for institutional and program accreditation.
