KUWAIT: An Indian couple working as staff nurses in Kuwait was found dead with stab wounds in their Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh apartment, in what is suspected to be a case of murder-suicide, according to local media reports. The couple, identified as Suraj Kuzhiyath John, 39, and his wife Bincy, 35, hailed from the Kannur and Ernakulam districts of Kerala, respectively. Their bodies were discovered with stab wounds on Thursday morning by the building’s haris in the Abbassiya neighborhood.

Married for over 10 years, the couple is survived by their daughter, Evelyn, 9, and son, Edwin, 6, who are currently in Kerala. Suraj worked at a ministry of health hospital and Bincy at a ministry of defense hospital in Kuwait, both as staff nurses. Reports suggest the couple had just returned from a night shift on the day of the incident. Bincy sustained stab wounds to her abdomen, while Suraj was found with a stab wound to his neck.

According to Indian media reports, a distressed Suraj reportedly called friends on Thursday morning after Bincy’s death, saying she had died and that he would soon follow her. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths and are exploring the possible motive behind the suspected murder-suicide. Friends of the couple stated that the children had been sent to India as the couple was planning to migrate to Australia in search of better career opportunities.
