KUWAIT: The Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) on Monday hosted the 61st meeting of the Technical Committee of Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. The three-day gathering, held in Kuwait, forms part of ongoing GCC efforts to strengthen joint mechanisms and harmonize practices in the field of social protection. In a press statement, the PIFSS said the committee’s discussions will focus on bolstering insurance rights for GCC citizens while advancing the financial sustainability of social insurance systems across the region.

Key topics on the agenda include the development of electronic inspection systems and their integration with relevant government entities, as well as enhancing employer compliance monitoring. The committee will also examine strategies to combat insurance fraud, including initiatives aimed at improving early detection systems and addressing violations more effectively. The meeting will further explore the establishment of unified databases to ensure accurate collection of insurance contributions and increase awareness among employers and insured individuals about their rights and obligations.

The PIFSS highlighted that such periodic meetings foster direct dialogue between business owners and workers from GCC countries, promoting shared visions and practical proposals that enhance the implementation and effectiveness of the insurance protection extension system. The institution expressed appreciation for the active engagement of all participating GCC retirement and social insurance bodies, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening technical collaboration and launching joint initiatives that benefit Gulf citizens and support the long-term sustainability of regional social protection systems. –  KUNA
