VIENNA: Kuwait on Thursday called on Iran to demonstrate full transparency in its dealings with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to resolve outstanding issues and verify the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. This came in a statement delivered by Ahmed Al-Daikan, Third Secretary at Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, during the IAEA Board of Governors’ session.
Al-Daikan underlined the importance of Tehran’s continued cooperation with the IAEA and the resumption of joint work in a transparent and constructive manner, noting that such steps would strengthen international confidence and enhance the agency’s ability to carry out its mandate — most importantly verifying that Iran’s nuclear activities are strictly peaceful. He expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the efforts of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, particularly his report issued on September 3 regarding the safeguards agreement with Iran under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Al-Daikan emphasized the central role of the IAEA in implementing the comprehensive safeguards system arising from the NPT. He noted that the Director General’s latest report stressed the need to resume inspection activities, which had been suspended following military attacks carried out by Zionist occupation forces on Iranian nuclear facilities. Resuming verification, he said, would enable the agency to reach accurate conclusions and provide comprehensive assurances on the Iranian program. He further pointed out that Iran and the IAEA signed an agreement in Cairo earlier this week to resume cooperation, which had been suspended after the conflict launched by the Zionist occupation last June. — KUNA
