Ministerial committee reviews port, energy, housing and environmental initiatives
KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Thursday called for a full national effort to accelerate the country’s development projects with China, urging officials to deploy “all expertise and resources to implement the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.”
The call came during the 29th session of the ministerial committee monitoring agreements and memoranda of understanding between Kuwait and China, held at Bayan Palace. The committee reviewed progress on key initiatives, including the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, electricity and renewable energy systems, low-carbon waste recycling, housing and urban development, sewage treatment infrastructure, free and economic zones and desertification control.
Officials from several ministries presented updates. The Public Works Ministry detailed progress on the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port with Chinese state-owned companies, while the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy outlined joint efforts with Chinese state-owned companies to enhance electricity and renewable energy production through the Abdaliya and Shagaya projects in their third and fourth phases.
Defense officials highlighted its role in combating desertification and coordinating with relevant Kuwaiti authorities alongside Chinese counterparts. The Ministry for Municipality Affairs and Housing updated the committee on developments in labor and residential city projects, as well as the low-carbon waste recycling project in coordination with Chinese partners.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and committee rapporteur Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayat, said the meeting comes within efforts to monitor tangible progress in implementing major development projects, emphasizing strategic cooperation with China across key sectors.
Attendees included senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as the Ministries of Public Works, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Defense, Municipality, Housing, and Kuwait’s Direct Investment Promotion Authority. — KUNA
