WASHINGTON: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah visited the site of the Desert Storm and Desert Shield memorial in Washington DC, which is scheduled for inauguration in the fall of next year. The visit included a briefing on the progress of construction, highlighting the memorial’s artistic and aesthetic elements that honor the sacrifices made during the 1991 Kuwait Liberation War and commemorates the heroism of coalition soldiers.
In a press statement, Sheikh Fahad praised the efforts invested in completing the memorial, located near the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, emphasizing its symbolic significance for the historic relations between Kuwait and the United States. He noted that the project reflects the mutual commitment to preserving peace and promoting shared values that form the foundation of the two countries’ enduring partnership.
Sheikh Fahad and his accompanying delegation arrived in Washington, DC, on Sunday on an official visit. During the visit, he also met with officials at the Kuwaiti Embassy, where he was received by Ambassador Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, embassy staff, and heads of attached offices. He commended their dedication in supporting Kuwaiti citizens and students abroad and underscored the embassy’s crucial role in representing Kuwait with distinction.
Sheikh Fahad held an open dialogue with Kuwaiti students studying abroad, listening to their experiences and perspectives on their academic journey. Sheikh Fahad stressed the government’s commitment to supporting students overseas and ensuring they overcome any challenges to achieve academic excellence.
