Kuwait Interior Min. tackles with US officials terrorism, organized crime with US

WASHINGTON: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah held talks on Monday with US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, focusing on enhancing security cooperation between Kuwait and the United States. The discussions highlighted Kuwait’s interest in strengthening collaboration in combating terrorism, organized crime and cybersecurity.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the meeting, held at the Department of Homeland Security headquarters in Washington, DC, was attended by Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries and the importance of further developing security cooperation, in line with the directives of Kuwait’s political leadership to bolster security and stability and expand the framework of joint efforts at various levels.

Sheikh Fahad expressed appreciation to Secretary Noem, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to ongoing coordination and collaboration to serve shared interests and strengthen security in both countries. The two officials reviewed aspects of bilateral security cooperation, including mechanisms for joint coordination, exchange of information, and capacity-building, aimed at addressing emerging challenges in terrorism, organized crime and cybersecurity.

Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef arrived in Washington on Sunday on an official visit. During the visit, Sheikh Fahad also met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department. According to the Ministry of Interior, the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in various fields, developing coordination mechanisms, and strengthening communication channels to support mutual interests and reinforce security and stability.

Sheikh Fahad underscored the historical and strategic relations between Kuwait and the United States, praising the State Department’s role in promoting peace, stability and development. He affirmed Kuwait’s eagerness to continue coordination and exchange visits, which help broaden cooperation and benefit from US expertise, particularly in security and diplomacy, to enhance the capabilities of national institutions. The two sides expressed their commitment to ongoing fruitful cooperation and exchanged thanks, highlighting the strength of bilateral relations and their shared goal of serving common interests. — KUNA
