KUWAIT: The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced Sunday the gradual rollout of the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES), which will be fully operational across EU and Schengen border crossings by April 10, 2026. GACA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi told KUNA the system is designed to boost border security and modernize the registration of travelers entering and exiting the bloc. He urged passengers to comply with the new requirements as implementation begins. Under the EES, travelers from outside the EU will have their entry and exit data recorded electronically, replacing manual passport stamping.

The system will collect personal information as well as biometric data, including fingerprints and facial images. Al-Rajhi noted that the new procedures are expected to lengthen processing times at EU airports, especially during the initial phase of adoption. He advised passengers traveling from Kuwait International Airport to Schengen countries to arrive at their departure airports well in advance — at least three hours before takeoff — to complete all requirements without delay. He also urged travelers transiting through EU airports to ensure sufficient time between connecting flights to avoid disruptions caused by the new system. — KUNA
