KFAS hosts delegation from Qatar Foundation

KUWAIT: The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) welcomed a high-level delegation from Qatar Foundation (QF), led by Dr Hilal Al-Ashoul, Advisor to the Chairperson of the Board for Research, Development, and Innovation, during an official visit to Kuwait from October 6 to 8, 2025. The visit aimed to reinforce strategic partnerships and promote knowledge exchange in scientific research, education and innovation.

During the visit, the QF delegation met with KFAS’ executive management and directors of its affiliated centers. The discussions focused on KFAS’ role and strategic vision, which emphasizes sustainable development through investments in science, research and innovation, as well as building national capacities in knowledge and technology. The strategy seeks to empower researchers and national institutions to translate ideas into practical applications with tangible societal and economic impact.

KFAS highlighted key pillars of its strategy, including supporting the research and development ecosystem, fostering regional and international partnerships, cultivating a culture of science in society, and implementing programs that enhance Kuwait’s position as a regional hub for scientific and technological innovation. The visit also explored regional cooperation projects between the two foundations, focusing on joint initiatives and research platforms to strengthen collaboration among research entities in Kuwait and Qatar.

The delegation conducted field visits to several research and academic centers, including the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, Abdullah Al-Salem University, the Scientific Center, Kuwait University, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and Dasman Diabetes Institute. They also visited Beit Al-Sadu to learn about KFAS-supported initiatives for processing locally produced wool, aimed at preserving traditional crafts and promoting contemporary cultural creativity.

At the conclusion of the visit, KFAS affirmed that its cooperation with Qatar Foundation reflects a shared vision of investing in science and knowledge to achieve sustainable development in the region, marking a new phase of regional partnership in innovation, research and education. In a press statement, KFAS said: “We are proud of this partnership with Qatar Foundation, which represents a pioneering model in supporting research, education and innovation ecosystems in the region. We look forward to this visit contributing to the development of a comprehensive regional cooperation framework that enhances knowledge integration and serves the goals of sustainable development.”

Dr Hilal Al-Ashoul lauded the progress in Kuwait’s research and innovation ecosystem, noting that “integration between the two foundations will contribute to building a regional scientific research network based on knowledge exchange and capacity building in both countries, benefiting the region as a whole.” The visit concluded with a coordination meeting at KFAS’ headquarters, where both parties agreed to prepare a joint action plan for the next phase, including collaborative research initiatives and development programs across multiple fields.
