PM chairs meeting on Kuwait-China MoUs, agreements implementation

KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah chaired the 30th meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with following up on the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed between the governments of Kuwait and China. The meeting, held at Bayan Palace, reviewed the latest updates, developments and reports from the concerned government bodies regarding the progress of these agreements.

The discussions focused on the commencement of projects aimed at expanding environmental protection programs and combating desertification and sand encroachment, particularly the launch of the first phase covering two main sites in northern Kuwait. The committee also reviewed progress on the implementation of the sewage treatment project being executed by a specialized Chinese company, as well as updates on renewable energy projects in Abdaliya and Shaqaya, currently in their third and fourth phases. Additionally, members examined ongoing cooperation between the two sides concerning the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project and discussed plans to begin construction work following the completion of technical studies next month.

His Highness the Prime Minister instructed the committee members to ensure the full and timely implementation of the discussed plans, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination and communication with the assigned Chinese state-owned companies. He urged adherence to established schedules for major development projects and called for efforts to accelerate completion timelines.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and committee rapporteur Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayat affirmed that coordination is ongoing to follow up on the implementation of key strategic projects and initiatives that directly contribute to medium- and long-term economic growth. He underscored the importance of maintaining clear timelines and submitting regular weekly reports to monitor progress. Ambassador Hayat reiterated the committee’s full commitment to supporting Kuwait’s economic and developmental objectives, in line with the leadership’s vision to strengthen national growth and enhance project outcomes.

The meeting was attended by Head of the Prime Minister’s Diwan Abdulaziz Dakhil Al-Dakhil, Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Public Works Dr Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan, Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdullatif Hamed Al-Meshari, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority Sheikh Dr Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Head of the Fatwa and Legislation Department Counselor Salah Ateeq Al-Majed, and Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayat. — KUNA
