Former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei’s Prison Term Doubled to Four Years

KUWAIT CITY, April 20: The Court of Cassation has overturned the Court of Appeal’s ruling that sentenced former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei to two years in prison with hard labor. Instead, the court increased his sentence to four years with hard labor in the case related to overstepping the authority of His Highness the Amir.

In a separate case, the Court of Cassation rejected the appeal filed by former MP Hussein Al-Qallaf against a Court of Appeal ruling that sentenced him to prison for allegedly insulting the Emirate. The Court of Appeal had earlier reversed the Criminal Court’s acquittal of Al-Qallaf and sentenced him to two years in prison with hard labor.
