KUWAIT: The Kuwait Scientific Club held a special ceremony Thursday to honor the national skydiving team, celebrating their historic first-place victory at the fifth Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) World Cup of Wingsuit Flying. The team, which became the first Arab squad to win the title, was followed by the US and Australian teams, who ranked second and third, respectively. The competition was held in August 2025 in the Czech Republic.

Talal Al-Kharafi, chairman of the Kuwait Scientific Club, praised the team’s achievement. “Honoring Kuwait’s champions and celebrating them is recognition of their efforts and achievements. It serves as a motivation for them to continue excelling and achieving even more,” he said. “I am proud of what the sons of Kuwait achieve in various international arenas.”

Al-Kharafi added that the victory reflects the professional level reached by Kuwait’s free-fall team and the strong support for aerial sports in the country. “This recognition embodies the Scientific Club’s vision of providing an encouraging environment for all and creating a climate that drives achievement. Our doors are open to everyone, and success comes through teamwork and joint efforts,” he said.

Mohammed Al-Rifai, chairman of the Kuwait Free-Fall Committee, highlighted the collaboration with the club in facilitating the team’s participation and obtaining FAI membership cards for team members. “The Kuwait Scientific Club is always keen on supporting youth, encouraging them, and giving them the confidence to reach the global stage,” he said. The ceremony also recognized members of the club’s astronomy department for their efforts in promoting scientific awareness and tracking astronomical phenomena. — KUNA
