NEW YORK: Kuwait has made women empowerment a central pillar of its development agenda, the country’s ambassador to the United States said Friday. Speaking at the high-level meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah emphasized the progress made by Kuwaiti women across various sectors. “Kuwait has made women’s empowerment a cornerstone of its developmental journey,” Sheikha Al-Zain said.

She highlighted key milestones from 2025, including the historic entry of Kuwaiti women into the army, fire service and coast guard, alongside growing representation in the police and leadership positions. “These achievements reflect Kuwait’s firm belief in the pivotal role of women in achieving peace and sustainable development,” the ambassador said.

Sheikha Al-Zain added that these advancements embody Kuwait’s deep conviction in the essential role of women in building cohesive societies and promoting comprehensive development both regionally and internationally. The statement comes as the international community marks three decades since adopting the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which asserts that the rights of women and girls are non-negotiable human rights. — KUNA
