MONTREAL: Kuwait is playing an active role at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) General Assembly in Montreal, using the global platform to strengthen aviation safety, sustainability, and international cooperation. The Kuwaiti delegation is led by Director General of Civil Aviation Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Al-Sabah. Over the course of the assembly, Kuwait has engaged in discussions on air navigation, safety, security, air transport and legal and administrative matters, as well as initiatives to support sustainable aviation and digital innovation.

On the third day of the meetings, Sheikh Humoud Al-Sabah held bilateral talks with delegations from the United States, Qatar, Oman, Spain and Malaysia. “The meeting with the US delegation reviewed ways to enhance cooperation in aviation security and safety, and the exchange of technical and operational expertise,” the Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

Discussions with Qatar focused on “strengthening coordination on shared positions in international forums and cooperation in sustainable aviation initiatives,” while talks with Oman emphasized “expanding cooperation in regional air transport and exchanging specialized expertise.” Meetings with Spain explored digital transformation and strategies to reduce emissions, and the delegation met with Malaysia to discuss airport management, technology and workforce development.

On the fourth day, Kuwait continued its engagement with member states through bilateral meetings with Saudi Arabia, France and Italy. The discussions with Italy focused on increasing direct flights and enhancing air transport connectivity to boost economic and tourism ties. Sheikh Humoud also noted that attending official social events hosted by Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Egypt provided opportunities to strengthen informal diplomatic ties. Last week, ICAO recognized Kuwait for progress in establishing an effective civil aviation security oversight system and improving implementation of international aviation standards. Reflecting on Kuwait’s participation, Sheikh Humoud said the meetings demonstrate the country’s commitment “to strengthening its international and regional partnerships and supporting ICAO-led global efforts to ensure aviation safety, security and sustainability, contributing to economic and social development.” — KUNA
