KISR, Coast Guard explore cooperation in marine research

KUWAIT: The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) held discussions with the Interior Ministry’s Coast Guard on enhancing joint cooperation through research initiatives serving national priorities in marine sciences and environmental conservation, the institute said in a press statement on Sunday. Brigadier General Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, Director General of the Coast Guard, led a delegation that visited KISR’s research vessel Al-Mostakshif (Explorer). The delegation was briefed on the vessel’s advanced capabilities and equipment, with officials highlighting that it is among the largest and most modern research vessels in the Arabian Gulf region.

KISR representatives detailed the vessel’s construction stages, the technologies employed, and its role in conducting marine surveys and collecting samples across a wide geographic range, including the Arabian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Arabian Sea. The discussions also covered the vessel’s contribution to high-quality scientific research, sustainable management of fishery resources, marine environment protection, and studies addressing climate change. The visiting delegation was received by KISR Director General Dr Faisal Al-Humaidan, Acting Executive Director of the Environmental and Life Sciences Research Center Dr Abdullah Al-Anzi, and Director of the Coastal and Marine Resources Program Dr Turki Al-Saeed. — KUNA
