GCC-EU dialogue serves a fundamental pillar for security

KUWAIT: Kuwaiti Ambassador to Belgium, the European Union (EU) and NATO, Nawaf Al-Enezi, affirmed that dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the EU serves as a fundamental pillar for enhancing regional security and fostering international cooperation. His remarks were made to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of his participation in a meeting between GCC ambassadors to the EU and representatives of the Political and Security Committee of the European Council.

The meeting forms part of ongoing coordination for the second edition of the High-Level Forum on Regional Security, alongside preparations for the 29th GCC-EU Joint Ministerial Council scheduled in Kuwait on October 5-6, and the upcoming GCC-EU Business Forum in Kuwait on November 5. Ambassador Al-Enezi noted that these forthcoming meetings will mark a new milestone in GCC-EU relations, offering an opportunity to deepen cooperation on political, security and economic issues, while strengthening regional security and stability.

He added that Kuwait’s hosting of these events underscores its diplomatic stature and its role as a bridge of communication between the two regions. “The Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union are committed to achieving practical and constructive outcomes that reinforce the Gulf-European partnership and expand horizons for strategic cooperation,” Al-Enezi said.

European representatives at the meeting expressed their appreciation for Kuwait’s efforts in hosting these key conferences, emphasizing their aspiration to reach agreements that further strengthen the partnership between the two sides. Both parties highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in technical fields, including research, education and environmental protection, with particular attention to the ongoing negotiations on a free trade agreement, aiming to consolidate progress and meet the aspirations of the peoples of both regions. — KUNA
